Happy New Year! And welcome to a whole new DECADE! What!? Where did the last 10 years go?
When I reflect back on the day to day, it appears that not much has changed (for myself for sure, and I’m sure a lot of you as well) but when I think back to 2010, there has been some major changes! I went from being 30 to being…. not 30 haha. My brothers and sister had no little kiddos, now I have FIVE nieces and nephews!! Five little people to love and spend time with. We got our little white fluff ball Wally, I’ve moved jobs a few times, the list can go on and on but I think the biggest change I see is my own personal growth. Do any of you feel the same? I feel like in my 30’s is really when I found who I truly am as a person, and feel the most comfortable in my own skin, and I’m sure that will continue into my 40’s! What’s the biggest changes in your lives over the last 10 years?
The last several years I’ve not made any “resolutions from Totaldentalcare” that were so unattainable that I quit part way thorough the year, although going to the gym seems to wean off around May every year, maybe this is the year that one will stick! Haha. They are mostly things I want to try and improve on, and I have 365 days to do it! At the first of the year I write down a long list of goals or ideas or things I want to try and achieve throughout the year, sometimes they are the same from year to year. I just look back on the previous years list and re write them 🙂 so they are all fresh in my mind, as well as anything new that I feel I should work on in the next 365 days. They are not all lofty by any means. It’s a very long list and I won’t bore you with all of them but they always include; waste less, try different foods, eat more veggies, drink more water, spend more time with friends and family etc. Going to the gym and eating healthier are always on there as well, so was “take more pictures”. The one I was most scared of was 2018, and 2019’s “start a blog”, turns out that wasn’t as scary as I thought 😉 but I did put it off for a while, out of fear. Fear of what I’m not even sure anymore. Now, I didn’t do 100% on every item on the list, far from it! But I did/do a little bit every day/week/moth/year, so that over time, it gets a little easier and what was once a “resolution” is now something I don’t even think about, it’s just something I do. You don’t need to do everything all at once, just as long as you’re trying, and with the mentality that today will be better than yesterday.
I’m not perfect, and that’s not the point of making a resolution, I don’t think, as long as you are happy with yourself and today is a bit better than yesterday, and if you mess up, there is always tomorrow, to start again. I truly believe in that what the little voice inside our heads is telling us is what we start to believe (something I think I picked up from attending Cross Fit classes) and I still can hear my instructor’s voice telling me “I can do it” “Almost done” when I’m exercising, or doing something I dislike. We were never allowed to say “I can’t”! That’s an attitude that is not only great for working out and crushing goals in a gym, but also for crushing goals in life. So make sure your little inner voices are being positive and not beating you down before you even try! Even if you don’t believe it at first, continue to do a little bit every day, and over time, I can guarantee, that you’ll have a bit of a mind shift and those resolutions that seemed daunting will be goals getting crushed! Just like the squats I used to do….way back…..last May…. haha.
“Saving Money” is also always on my list, but this year that will have to wait… until I pay for my new camera lens I just ordered… and the clothes I ordered from Boxing Day sales! 😉 See, something to work on. Haha
How we spend our days is essentially how we live our lives. So be sure to do something you love every day! You’ve got 365 days to make 2020 a great year! What are some resolutions you are planning to make?
